Leadership- What I learned from a 10 year old

Life is like a ROLLER COASTER......
NO REALLY......IT IS!
With a fabolous weekend upon us, my daughter and I made plans with a few of her school friends to attend the official opening of our largest local amusement park.
Sunday morning 9am; a truck packed with screaming girls (and dad), a warm cup of java, the latest tunes on the stereo, and we were on our way.....
While enroute, I heard a little voice call out to me....."Dan, you are coming on the Bohemiath Coaster with me arent you?" With a deep swallow, and a little smile, and MOUNDS of FEAR, I said, "well..... maybe....." "Maybe?", she replied, "come on....who goes to an amusement park, and doesn't go on the biggest ride in the place?"
With young children (including my daughter) awaiting my answer, I began rationalizing my thoughts; "Dan, do you really need to challenge yourself to take this coaster ride, after all, you are very safe and comfortable standing on the ground watching other people experience the RUSH........." and in that instant, IT HIT ME!
"How was this like my life?"
"Standing on the sidelines, admiring others experiences, accomplishments, and successses!"
Well.................. NO MORE !
With a smile on my face, and a RUSH of enthusiasm, I looked back at this 10 year old, and DECLARED, "I'm IN!"
Later that morning, as I sat atop this world class flight deck, a thought washed over me; "although I was in a passenger seat of a world class coaster, I was officially back in the DRIVERS SEAT OF MY LIFE!"
Then in an instant, "ALL CLEAR" rang out over the loudspeaker, my fear was replaced with adrenaline, my grimace with a smile, and slouched posture for "edge of my seat" postioning,......and I was off..... NEVER LOOKING BACK!
Thanks to this magnificient 10 year old, I was reminded of the difference between leaders and followers.
Which one are you?
Dream it...
Plan it...
Execute it...
