Inner Beauty

I hosted a REAL BEAUTY WORKSHOP for my daughter, 9 of her friends and their respective mothers yesterday. The girls learned about self esteem, connected with their "inner" beauty and understood their true power is being themselves! It was an amazing day.  Watching young girls (aged 8-12) and their mothers, together, connected, discussing beauty and the power of BEING THEMSELVES was inspiring.

In our culture, young girls are bombarded with messages, ideas, and suggestions about beauty, and in most cases are being lied to!  The true message is, "although looking good is important, it's how I feel about myself that matters most."

As I watched these girls complete tasks, I was, once again, reminded of the power of community.  Inner beleif is proportionate to the mentorship and guidance girls learn from their community and specifically, their moms. How they dress, behave, friends thay choose, and their willingness to connect is driven by how they see their moms behaving.

Rather than offering ideas, battling our daughters clothing or make up choices, ask yourself;  What message am I giving my girl(s)?  How confident am I?  What are my actions telling my daughter(s)?

To effect a change in your daughter(s), you must first make the change in yourself, and without asking.. daughters will FOLLOW......

You have it within you. She is waiting for you!  Now is your time to

CANADA- I Believe

What an Olympics. What a finish. From Abbottsford to Afghanistan, Canadians are celebrating in a way that we have not done in a long time. We broke records. We won more gold medals than any other nation in any Olympics and we will never be the same!

These games have become the international "coming out party" of Vancouver and Canada. We were welcoming, hospitable, bilingual, and multicultural. full of promise and although we hosted athletes, these games were truly about the people.

Unforgettable moments were etched in our hearts and through snapshots of humanity, emerged an unusual passion and patriotism. John Furlong said it best, “we Canadians, tonight, are stronger, more united, more in love with our country, and more connected with each other than ever before."

Yes, the 2010 Vancouver games were an enormous success. There was grief, there were glitches and this was a magical moment. A shared experience to nurture, care, treasure and to hang onto. No matter where we were, we felt it; the warmth, pride, optimism and we have embraced each other, and although we won GOLD, the true color of these Olympics was RED!

I am PROUD to be Canadian and I BELIEVE!

Dream It…

Execute It…

The POWER of COMMUNITY- Shaun White

The 2010 Winter Olympics are incredible.  Athletes are amazing, the competition is fierce and as I watch triumphant athletes, American 10 x GOLD X games and 2x Olympic Medalist, Shaun White, stands out for 2 reasons.

1. Dominance
As Americas most decelerated Alpine athlete, he has the style, skill, look and commitment to succeed.

Not only have his efforts solidified his place in Olympic and US Sports history, his half pipe dominance has the world class competition believing the fight for 2nd is the only option.

FAMILY- The Power of Connection

I stood in line at a local business copy store the other day, and although I was feeling anxious, I took a moment and watched a young girl sitting at a nearby table. As she surrounded herself with her primitive tools (aka Crayons, markers and Paper), she drew, doodled and scribbled, with one thought in mind, do my best then show it to mommy!

Laying it on the Line!

The 2010 Olympic Winter games from Vancouver B.C. are underway, and as I watch the Women's Mogul Final, I am reminded that these athletes spend 2 102 400 minutes training, eating, traveling, and preparing for a 30 second opportunity!

Most sports offer second chances, AND not the Olympics. Competing athletes sacrifice all they have, for ONE opportunity to lay it on the line, and when asked, they wouldn't change a thing.

Life offers equal amounts of victory and defeat, Olympians take a risk, lay it on the line, and are now living the dream.

What can you do today to lay it on the line?
